[!WARNING] As of August 8th 2026, Harvest is archived and no longer developed. The Harvest project began in 2021, and in the 5 years since, a lot has changed. Part of it was a realization making an algorithmic trading framework was harder than expected. It's hard to curate data, it's hard to maintain uptime, and of course, hard to actually make money. But the most detrimental of all was AI. Since the beginning, the project's core value was to provide a clean and intuitive API for human developers to easily develop algorithms and access brokerages. This value proposition was rendered obsolete as coding agents became progressively better and every other brokerages (even Robinhood!) began releasing their own MCP servers. Harvest isn't completely dead though. The experience I gained through working on this project, and notably the experimental agent orchestration system that was developed near the tail end of its life, will live on in Shepherd, the successor project of Harvest.
